Readings for April 6

We will talk about mobile technology April 6.
  • This is a 10" TED talk about the use of mobile technology in disaster response in the developing world. The speaker is Paul Conneally, who at the time of his talk was public communications manager for the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
  • This is a 15" TED talk about the use of mobile phones in helping in the developing world. The speaker, Iqbal Quadir, has been instrumental in bringing mobile phones to Bangladesh.
  • This is a good, general article (albeit a little dated) about the uses of mobile phones in strategic communication campaigns:
    • Cullum, B. (2010). Devices: The Power of Mobile Phones. In M. Joyce (Ed.), Digital Activism Decoded: The New Mechanics of Change (pp. 47-70). New York: International Debate Education Association. (On Blackboard.)
